XIENTIFICA SOS is a great platform for kicking off scientific conversations and inspiring young people. These posts aim to link the scientific ideas and concepts from my novel to other amazing content on the web to bring more depth and new ways to bring them to life!

We stared helplessly as a sea of larva began pouring out of the crater and began its march of destruction down the mountain slopes. Ash and ‘larva bombs’ spat out in all directions, crashing into trees and bushes and igniting them instantly.

We watched in horror as the orange lake of molten rock spilled down through the tree layer towards us. Rock that had been locked away, out of reach in the depths of the Earth, was now free.

We looked back to the shore and saw a river of red-hot larva snaking its way out through the trees and across the sands where we had been just moments earlier. It was only when it reached the sea that it finally met its match; but it wasn’t without a fight. We watched, with front row seats, as two mighty forces of nature clashed in battle in a cloud of hissing steam. The cold sea stole the larva’s energy, turning it into solid rock and changing the coastline in an instant. And the larva kept coming. Sacrificing itself to the sea, but gaining ground, inch by inch.
